The 60/70 panel reports measured results against the ISIRI 12505 acceptance limits; the remaining grades give the specification bands. The 60/90 grade is listed on the properties its certificate reports reliably — ask us for the specific gravity, solubility and spot-test figures on the lot offered. A batch-specific CoA is issued per shipment.

Penetration Grades — Selection Guide

One number does most of the work. Penetration is the depth in tenths of a millimetre that a 100 g needle sinks into the bitumen in five seconds at 25 °C.

A lower penetration number is a harder bitumen. Choose on the pavement temperature range and traffic loading, not on price per tonne — the wrong grade rutts in summer or cracks in winter.

How we drum, certify and ship penetration-grade bitumen. Terms can be adapted by agreement — tell us what your operation needs.

Minimum Order Quantity: 1 × 20 ft container (approx. 20 MT drummed). Larger tonnages by bulk vessel or bitutainer. Trial quantities available for qualification.
Packaging: New steel drums of 150 kg or 180 kg net, 1 MT poly / jumbo bags, or bulk in heated bitutainer or tanker. Drum weight is confirmed at order stage.
Incoterms & Loading Ports: EXW, FOB, CFR and CIF (Incoterms® 2020). Standard loading at Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam Khomeini; other ports by arrangement.
Quality Certification: Batch-specific CoA with every shipment covering penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point, solubility and loss on heating, with thin-film oven test results on the 60/70 grade. SGS / Bureau Veritas inspection at buyer’s cost.
Lead Time: 7–14 days for standard grades after order confirmation; 15–25 days for custom-milled or specially packed material.
Storage & Handling: Store drums upright and under cover, away from ignition sources. Bitumen is handled hot and the main hazard is thermal burns — never introduce water into hot bitumen, as flash boiling will eject the contents of the tank. Keep bulk storage below 180 °C and avoid prolonged high-temperature holding, which hardens the binder and moves it off grade. A Safety Data Sheet ships with every consignment.

Certificate of Analysis

A batch-specific CoA is issued with every shipment. Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

Bitumen — Frequently Asked Questions

What does the penetration number mean?

It is the depth, in tenths of a millimetre, that a standard 100 g needle sinks into the bitumen in five seconds at 25 °C, measured to ASTM D-5. Bitumen 60/70 means the needle sinks between 6.0 and 7.0 mm. A lower number is a harder bitumen: 40/50 for hot climates and heavy axle loads, 85/100 for cold-weather paving.

Which grade should I order?

Choose on pavement temperature and traffic, not on price. In hot climates with heavy trucks, 40/50 resists rutting. In temperate climates 50/70 or 60/70 is the normal choice — 60/70 is the global reference paving grade. In cold climates 85/100 stays flexible enough to avoid low-temperature cracking. Tell us the design temperature range and we will confirm the fit.

What is the thin-film oven test on the 60/70 certificate?

It simulates the ageing a binder goes through in the asphalt plant mixer. A 60/70 sample is heated as a thin film and re-tested: our certificate shows 0.1% change in mass against a 0.8% limit, 74% retained penetration against a 52% minimum, and residue ductility above 100 cm against a 50 cm minimum. A binder that fails TFOT will be brittle in the road even though it passed every test in the drum.

How is bitumen packed and shipped?

In new steel drums of 150 kg or 180 kg net — roughly 20 MT in a 20 ft container — in 1 MT poly bags, or in bulk by heated bitutainer or tanker for larger tonnages. Drum weight is confirmed at order stage because it changes the container count.

How should bitumen be stored and handled?

Drums upright and under cover, away from ignition sources. The critical rule with hot bitumen is that water must never enter the tank: it flashes to steam instantly and ejects the contents. Keep bulk storage below 180 °C and do not hold it hot longer than necessary, because prolonged high-temperature storage oxidises the binder and hardens it out of grade.

What is the minimum order quantity for bitumen?

One 20 ft container, approximately 20 MT drummed. Larger tonnages ship by bulk vessel or bitutainer. Trial quantities can be arranged so you can qualify the binder in your own mix design before committing to a full order.
